1. Padar Island
Dubbed the “Earthly Zelda,” Padar Island feels like a different world. ☀️☀️ The sun blazes down, so make sure to slather on sunscreen and carry plenty of water. The ascent is via a series of steps, and it takes about 30 minutes to reach the summit, where you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the three bays.

Plan for a visit lasting around an hour and a half. ⚠️ (If you’re planning to fly a drone, you must register 2-3 days in advance at the Labuan Bajo office, with a fee of 1,000,000 IDR.)

2. Pink Beach
The beach’s pink hue is striking, especially under the midday sun, creating a stunning contrast with the azure sea. You might even spot deer drinking by the shore. ⚠️ Be cautious of the broken corals underwater, which can be sharp; wearing water shoes is highly recommended. Due to strong rip currents, snorkeling is not advised; safety should always come first. Instead, enjoy the picturesque shore and capture some beautiful photos.

3. Komodo National Park
Guides will lead you on an exciting adventure to find the legendary Komodo dragons. At the entrance, there’s usually an old, docile dragon that stays still, perfect for group photos. The younger, more active ones might be seen rummaging through trash for food. ⚠️ Keep a safe distance, as these creatures can be dangerous.

4. Crescent Bay
This idyllic spot is perfect for swimming and snorkeling, with its shallow, crystal-clear waters. The full beauty of the bay is best captured from above, using a drone. It’s a great place to relax, take a dip, and snap some memorable photos.

5. Manta Snorkeling Point
The captain will scout the area first to locate manta rays. Whether you see them or not is a matter of luck. We weren’t very fortunate and only caught a glimpse of one, which quickly swam away. ⚠️ This area is deep and can be dangerous, so it’s essential to wear a life jacket when entering the water. The captain and crew are highly responsible, always keeping a watchful eye with lifebuoys in hand.
6. Kanawa Island
This small, tranquil island is a snorkeler’s paradise, teeming with colorful fish and vibrant corals. The water is incredibly clear, making it easy to observe the marine life. Lounge chairs are available for those who prefer to relax on the shore. Highly recommended for anyone who loves to watch the fascinating underwater world.
7. Kalong Island
The highlight of the trip is the spectacular bat sunset. Watch the sun dip below the horizon, and after it sets, the bats begin to emerge from the mangroves, usually around 6:30 PM. Against the backdrop of the evening sky, the sight is both majestic and beautiful. The entire spectacle lasts about 30 minutes. Many liveaboard boats add to the ambiance by turning on their lights, creating a truly romantic scene.
8. Return to the main island
That bat sunset viewing experience sounds amazing! I had no idea Komodo tours offered something like that. I’ll definitely keep AirAsia in mind for the cheaper flights on Tuesdays or Fridays. It seems like a great way to make the most of a one-day trip.
