② Upon arrival, you can either meet your pick-up contact at the airport or opt for a Grab ride to your city hotel, which typically costs around 200,000 Rupiah.
③ For exploring the area, you have several options.

You can charter a car, order a Grab and negotiate with the driver for a day trip, or take a Grab to one of the two city bus stations (Terminal Penang Baris Medan or Terminal Bus Kurnia) and catch a bus to Brastagi. The bus journey is slower and less punctual, but it’s an option if you prefer public transport.

Once in Brastagi, you can charter a car to Parapat town, where you can board a boat to the island. The total distance from the airport to Lake Toba is approximately 160km, as shown on Google Maps. While in Medan, immerse yourself in the historical ambiance by visiting the former residence of Zhang Ahui, the Great Mosque, and the Maimun Palace.

By chartering a car, you can also venture to the Sibayak volcano, which takes about an hour and a half to reach. The bus doesn’t pass this way, so you won’t get to see it. Afterward, stroll through Brastagi town before heading to Parapat town to catch the boat to the island.
④ The journey to Parapat town usually takes around 4 hours.

With the new highway, the trip is now faster and more efficient.
⑤ The ferry cost for a round trip, including 7 people and one car, is 500,000 Rupiah (approximately 250 RMB).
⑥ If you’re looking for better accommodation on Samosir Island, expect to pay around 300 RMB per night on average. For a more luxurious stay, the Maria Anna International Resort, a 5-star hotel, offers rooms for about 600, 700, or 800 RMB per night.

⑦ On the island, explore the Batak ancestral ruins and the stone platform where executions once took place.
⑧ The Jesus statue is located on the other side of the lake, requiring you to leave the island to see it. You can include this in your return journey.
