It’s important to note that 90% of the low-cost rainforest guides recommended by hotels are unlicensed. These guides often take less traveled and potentially unsafe routes through the rainforest. In the event of an accident, neither the Indonesian Guide Association nor the park management will be held accountable. For your safety and peace of mind, it is highly recommended to choose officially licensed rainforest guides.

🛩 **How to get there**
[One R] Start your journey by taking a connecting flight from Kuala Lumpur or Penang, Malaysia, to Kualanamu Airport in Medan, Indonesia. The flight duration is just 45 minutes, offering a breathtaking view of the Strait of Malacca.

[Two R] Upon arrival, arrange for a rainforest driver (one-way trip costs 325 yuan (approximately 200 Malaysian Ringgit), suitable for up to 5 people, with more passengers sharing the cost; it’s recommended to have 4 people, leaving extra space in the back for luggage). The driver will meet you at the airport exit with a sign. The scenic drive to Bukit Lawang village takes about 3 hours.

[Three R] Check into your pre-booked hotel, where you can rest, enjoy a cup of coffee, and explore the surroundings. The next morning, set off with a guide to enter the national park. Most rainforest hotels do not provide hot water, so a hot shower might not be an option.

[Four R] Follow your guide from the rainforest hotel, and after a 20-minute walk, you’ll reach the entrance of the national park, ready to embark on a day of adventure. You can return in the evening or opt to spend the night in the rainforest, either in a tent ⛺️ or a simple brick house.

[Five R] After a 1 or 2-day hike, the guide will lead everyone back to the hotel for some well-deserved rest. The following day, the rainforest driver will either take you back to the airport (325 yuan) or you can hire a car to visit Lake Toba, the world’s largest volcanic lake, for a memorable sightseeing experience.
