📍Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta
Conclusion first: Rating 9/10, highly recommended

❌Cons:
1. The hotel building is a bit old, for example, the faucet is an old-style twist type with hot water on the left and cold on the right. The soundproofing is not great, especially in the morning and evening, when the sound of the pipes from the upper floors can be quite noticeable if they are using water.

2. It’s not located in the city center. Travel to many areas within the city usually takes at least 30 minutes by car. If you want to visit a lot of museums/attractions or enjoy the nightlife on Jalan Malioboro late into the night, staying in the city (e.g., The Phoenix Hotel) would be more convenient.

However, if you prefer a quiet place, this is perfect.

✅Pros:
1. For international tourists, there is a sense of familiarity and consistency, such as the toiletries being exactly the same as those at the Hyatt in Beijing.
2. Green space and area: The hotel has a vast green area, adjacent to a golf course. Apart from the main building, the rest is large expanses of grass, woods, gardens, and pools.

There is a 2KM walking track, with diverse landscape design, making it interesting and not boring to walk around. Whether in the morning or evening, it’s very easy to take a stroll and get close to nature within the hotel. In Indonesia, this kind of “quiet” and “green” space is absolutely luxurious.

This is also my favorite aspect of the Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta.
3. Experience: The hotel offers various experiences, such as a four-wheel drive trip to Merapi volcano, arranging local tours in Yogyakarta, and different themed food on different days (e.g., seafood BBQ on Friday nights). Especially recommended: free Indonesian-style photography.

Guests can book a photography session with the hotel, and they will provide Indonesian-style clothing, have a photographer take pictures at various spots in the hotel, and even help edit the photos. You can get one photo printed and framed for free, and if you want more, you can purchase them. This experience is very good.

4. Boutique Batik Shop: If you want to buy some high-quality and well-designed Batik clothes (since the Batik shops on Jalan Malioboro are generally more mass-market), there is a Batik Nonya Indo shop downstairs in the hotel, which has good quality, design, and fabric.
5. Service: The overall service level of the Indonesian tourism industry is good, polite, gentle, and sincere, providing a great experience.

Overall, I highly recommend the Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta. If you like Alila Ubud / Amandari and similar resorts surrounded by nature, this is the best choice in the city of Yogyakarta. Of course, there is also Amanjiwo by Aman Hotels near Borobudur. Indonesian cities are generally noisy, and the Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta provides a rare tranquility and greenery.

I stayed at Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta last year and can confirm some of those cons like the outdated faucet design—it’s definitely something to get used to. However, the location and overall service still make it a solid choice, especially since the positives seem to outweigh the negatives based on your review. I’d say a 9/10 rating sounds about right!
