How to Manage Your Schedule After Renewing Indonesian Visa on Arrival

If time is of the essence and you can’t afford to wait for the usual 6 working days after submitting your application on the immigration website, there’s a more expedient solution. You can visit the nearest immigration office in person to expedite the process.

First, locate the closest immigration office in your area. It’s highly recommended to book an appointment on the official website beforehand, as high demand often means that all slots for the day can be filled quickly, leaving you with a wasted trip. To make an appointment, scan the QR code provided, fill in your personal details, and a confirmation dialog box will appear, as shown in Figure 1.

Click the red link to download your appointment number, but be aware that the website may have a glitch preventing the download. No need to worry; simply take a screenshot of the confirmation and present it to the staff, who will then provide you with the appointment number. This method has been tested and proven effective.

Upon arrival at the immigration office, you’ll be greeted by temporary staff wearing floral shirts, which are the local uniforms. They will ask some routine questions, and it’s important to note that they might require proof of accommodation nearby, such as a hotel reservation. If you don’t have one, consider staying at a nearby hotel the night before or creating a fake booking.

I personally processed my visa at the Denpasar Immigration Office in Bali, which, after some research, I found to be less crowded. By staying nearby, I avoided any potential issues. Show them the screenshot of your online application and proof of payment. After verifying your appointment, they will give you a number, and the formal processing will begin.

Make sure to ask the staff where the designated waiting area for foreigners is, and avoid sitting with the locals to prevent unnecessary delays. When your number is called, repeat your processing information to the staff, who will ask you some routine questions. Once everything is in order, your visa will be processed immediately. Refresh the processing interface, and you’ll see your new visa, as shown in Figure 4. With your new visa in hand, you can continue your travels without further delay.

Before you leave, double-check the validity date of your new visa to avoid any fines due to expiration. Ensuring everything is correct from start to finish will save you from potential headaches down the road.
