Komodo Rainy Season Adventure: An Unforgettable Risk Worth Taking

A few days after returning, I found myself grappling with withdrawal symptoms. The time spent at sea was simply enchanting, and I feel compelled to dedicate a separate post just to the liveaboard experience. One of the most delightful aspects was having someone else take photos for you. Captain Jeffry and crew member Cristian are exceptionally skilled photographers, and even the other passengers on board had a fantastic eye for capturing moments with great aesthetics.

Whenever I travel with my children, I’m usually the one behind the camera, rarely getting a chance to be in the frame. This time, I finally have some truly satisfying photos of myself.

🔺Day 1
In the morning, the boat company sent a car to pick us up from our hotel (within the main island). We gathered at the dock and boarded the boat early in the day.
🌟Turtle Island: Our first dive site, where we could enjoy free diving. I had asked the captain in advance to help shoot a video. When it wasn’t a one-on-one session, I went snorkeling, and a fellow passenger spotted a large turtle.

🌟Second Dive Site: I took the kids to swim in very shallow waters, where there were numerous transparent small jellyfish, which were hard to spot… I got stung five or six times.
🌟Karang Makassar: We witnessed thousands of bats returning to their nests, a truly awe-inspiring sight. The sunset was also breathtakingly beautiful, creating a very romantic moment.

🔺Day 2
🌟Padar Island: We climbed up at 4 AM to watch the sunrise. Despite the crowds, the view was absolutely stunning.
🌟Pink Beach: On a sunny day, this beach is incredibly beautiful, with its glassy sea and pink sand making for perfect photo opportunities. The beach is adorned with many beautiful white and red corals.

You can play in the water by the shore and see transparent fish while snorkeling.
🌟Komodo Dragon Park: We encountered heavy rain, and while taking shelter, we spotted a small Komodo dragon on the beach. After the rain stopped and the sun came out, we trudged through mud puddles into the park but didn’t find much.

In the end, we saw a large lizard 🦎 at the entrance, posing for photos with tourists, clearly an old pro. Although this attraction was a bit of a letdown, we still managed to see a giant lizard…
🌟Manta Point: The most anticipated dive site, and it did not disappoint! We were lucky enough to see groups of mantas, with seven swimming around me during the first dive, which was a bit scary when they came close.

Note‼️There is a current here, and you might feel like you’re swimming in place for a long time. There are also a lot of jellyfish.
🌟Crescent Beach: On a good day, this beach rivals the Maldives. Unfortunately, it was overcast when we visited, so the photos didn’t turn out well, but the sand was visibly pink.

You can play in the shallow waters by the shore, and we even saw a few baby blacktip sharks, darting through the water very fast.

🔺Day 3
🌟Kelor Island: I decided to take a break and stay in the room, missing out on what turned out to be an enchanting experience. The photos my fellow travelers shared were absolutely stunning. They mentioned a short but rewarding climb up the mountain, where breathtaking views awaited. The shallow, crystal-clear waters offered a perfect spot for a refreshing dip, and snorkeling just off the shore revealed a surprising and thrilling sight—baby sharks swimming right by the beach.

I can’t help but feel a tinge of regret for not joining them.

By noon, we bid farewell to our boat, and the boat company kindly arranged a car to drop us off at our next destination within the main island. Our adventure continued as we chartered a private boat to the Sudamala hotel on a nearby offshore island, setting the stage for more unforgettable moments.
