The Life-Changing Truth I Discovered in Kenya: Wishes I Knew Sooner!
One item checked off the life list!
While the experience is still fresh, I’ll summarize my 10-day trip and share insights on six key questions I focused on when planning.
【📖Travel Guide】
Q1: Is Kenya safe?
A1: In terms of “public safety,” national parks are mostly filled with tourists and are very safe.

Nairobi is a bit more chaotic, and it’s not recommended to go out alone after dark.
Q2: Should I join a tour or travel independently?
A2: It’s not advisable to travel independently in Africa. Joining a small, high-quality domestic tour can ensure a balance between freedom and safety.
Q3: What is the best season to visit?

A3: The peak season is during the great migration from July to October, but it’s relatively expensive. However, the so-called “off-season” isn’t boring at all. The animals are still there; they just aren’t migrating, making it a cost-effective choice.
Q4: How many days should I plan for?
A4: Around 10 days.

Any longer might lead to some visual fatigue.
Q5: Is the “Yellow Book” (vaccination certificate) necessary?
A5: Yes! For your own safety, make sure to get vaccinated.
Q6: What should I prepare?
A6: Emphasizing four often-overlooked items:
① UK plug adapters, bring as many as possible, you’ll know why when you need to charge!

② Masks, as safari vehicles are open, and the dust can be intense!
③ A hairdryer, you know what hotel hairdryers are like!
④ US dollars in cash, Kenya is a tipping country, so have plenty of small bills.

【About the Tour I Joined】
Before the trip, I compared several small tours on xhs and finally chose a 10-day small group recommended by a friend (not a paid endorsement).

Apart from sometimes paying for meals and personal activities, there were no other expenses. The hotels were mostly castle-like or manor-style, with wildlife nearby, providing a full experience.
Most importantly, the tour guide’s service was comparable to that of Haidilao! It was almost divine. Highly professional, explaining animal behaviors clearly, and helping to avoid crowds and find good photo spots.

【Costs】
As everyone knows, a safari is not a budget trip. This time, with my best friend, the total cost including the tour fee and miscellaneous expenses was around 21,000 RMB. During the peak season, 30,000-50,000 RMB would ensure a good experience.

If you’re planning to embark on a tour to Kenya, it’s crucial to select a reputable and reliable tour operator to guarantee an authentic and unforgettable experience. A well-chosen tour can make all the difference, ensuring that every moment of your adventure is both safe and exhilarating.
