Exciting news! I’m planning a special mother-daughter trip to Kyoto this mid-May with a carefully crafted five-day itinerary. Here’s what we have planned:

Best Places to Visit in Kyoto on Your Last Day: Top Attractions & Hidden Gems

D1: Temple treasures day – We’ll explore the iconic Kiyomizu-dera complex, marvel at the thousand golden statues of Sanjusangendo, then chase sunset at the magical Fushimi Inari Taisha.

D2: Nature immersion – A full day discovering Arashiyama’s bamboo forest, scenic river views, and charming monkey park.

D3: Royal Kyoto – Starting with the serene Shimogamo Shrine, we’ll visit the majestic Kyoto Imperial Palace, explore Nijo Castle’s nightingale floors, then admire impressionist masterpieces at the Monet Exhibition.

D4: Coastal escape – A day trip to the breathtaking “Bridge to Heaven” at Amanohashidate!

For our final day before catching an evening train to Nara, I want something relaxing yet memorable. Currently torn between three wonderful options:

[1] Mountain serenity – Visiting the peaceful Sanzen-in temple followed by the picturesque Kibune Shrine with its famous riverbed dining.

[2] Temple trio near the station – Exploring the grand Higashi Honganji, its twin Nishi Honganji, and the stunning five-story pagoda at To-ji.

[3] Matcha paradise – Spending the whole day in charming Uji, birthplace of premium green tea, visiting Byodo-in Temple and strolling along the Uji River.

I’d absolutely love to hear your suggestions! Which final day option do you think would be most enjoyable for my mom? Also, if you have any must-see recommendations or tips for our earlier itinerary, please share your wisdom! 😊✨
