Avoid Kota Kinabalu: Debunking the Myth of a Top Three Global Destination

The first image showcases the sea in Kota Kinabalu, while the second one is from Huizhou, Guangdong. Both are gifs, and I assure you, they haven’t been photoshopped (please ignore my figure).

I can’t fathom why Xiaohongshu keeps hyping up Kota Kinabalu, luring me all the way here, only to find it incredibly dull! The beach was a letdown, littered with trash. Honestly, it pales in comparison to the pristine waters of Xunliaowan in Huizhou that I visited last year. Maybe I picked the wrong time?

But for three whole days, not a single sunset graced my view. The food was just average, and the durians were out of season and outrageously expensive. I’m not sugarcoating it; I’m heading back now! Don’t always assume that foreign seas are better… Save your breath about the joys of island hopping; I’ve lost all hope!
