Penang, a small city in the South Seas that is said to be more Cantonese than Guangdong and more Fujian than Fujian, has the highest proportion of Chinese in Malaysia. It seems very similar to the mainland but also integrates local styles, making it an ideal destination for a weekend getaway in my mind! Two days are just enough to enjoy both the delicious food, including durian, and to take a city walk to see the colorful and retro buildings.

Some people might find the taste a bit unusual, but I personally think it’s pretty good.
3️⃣ Chulia Street Night Market
Not far from the Eastern & Oriental Hotel and Love Lane, this night market offers great food. The stir-fried kueh teow and grilled items are all good, and there’s a durian stall where the owner is very honest and the prices are fair.
