Days in Penang: My Honest Review and Travel Tips
Penang has always been hyped as a food paradise and a haven for the quaint, so I specifically stayed for 5 days to experience it in depth. However, I have to say, reality and imagination had a bit of a gap… 🙃 There were some disappointments, but also some pleasant surprises. This post is to share my honest experience, helping my fellow sisters avoid pitfalls and discover treasures!

📌Summary of 5 Days in Penang (Quick Read)
💎Pros:
✅Georgetown is very photogenic with a full artistic vibe! 📸
✅Food is indeed cheap, but… it’s subjective, more details later! 🍜
✅The pace is slow, suitable for relaxation, but… if it’s too slow, it might get a bit boring!
💣Cons:
❌Transportation in Penang is really difficult!

No car = no movement! 🚗
❌The weather is extremely hot, you’ll be drenched in sweat after just a few steps! 🥵
❌Some popular internet-famous shops are major letdowns, the taste is really average!

🎡Places visited over these 5 days (with both disappointments and recommendations)
1️⃣ Georgetown (Photogenic, but.

.. can be finished quickly)
The most famous old town in Penang, filled with murals and British colonial architecture, really photogenic, every street has a vintage feel, full marks for the artistic atmosphere! 📷
❌But walking around, you can finish it quite quickly, a bit disappointing 😅
❌Some murals have faded and become old, not as impressive as imagined
2️⃣ Penang Hill (Penang Hill)
The most famous high point in Penang, the scenery is beautiful!

You can overlook the entire Penang and the sea, quite spectacular! The weather is a bit cooler than the city, won’t make you faint from heat!
❌The cable car queue is super long, really frustrating when there are many people! 🚠
❌There’s not much special up there, just look at the view and that’s it
3️⃣ Batu Ferringhi Beach
One of the most famous beaches in Penang, the beach is long, the scenery is okay, good for taking photos, water activities like banana boat, parasailing, etc.

❌The seawater is really not clean! Don’t expect too much!
❌The sand can’t compare to the white sands of Maldives or Langkawi
4️⃣ Kek Lok Si Temple (A super spectacular Buddhist temple)
📍The largest Buddhist temple in Southeast Asia, definitely worth a visit! The architecture is extremely grand, lanterns + Buddha statues are very impressive!

If you like cultural history, it’s worth spending time to explore slowly!
❌Lots of stairs, easy to get heatstroke if the weather is hot!
