Finally, I arrived at the Strait of Malacca, a place I had only read about in my geography books. It felt like I had closed a loop of knowledge. I absolutely love the phrase, “At this moment, the Strait of Malacca is not in the book, but under my feet” 🌏🌠🥹

On the day of my arrival, I spent the night wandering around Kuala Lumpur. Surprisingly, it felt like being back in Guangzhou or Shenzhen (locals, please don’t take offense), which only made me more eager to explore Malacca the next day. Looking back, it was an incredibly rewarding experience!

1️⃣ Transportation from Kuala Lumpur to Malacca: Head to TBS station by taxi, go up to the second-floor service hall, and purchase your tickets from a self-service machine (it’s much faster than queuing at the counter). Enter your passport and name, select Melaka Sentral as your destination, and choose the earliest available bus.

You can pay with cash or card, and the fare is 12 RM per person. After buying your ticket, head to the boarding gate; it’s best to leave about ten minutes after purchasing your ticket to ensure you arrive on time. Avoid buying tickets in advance on Easybook or Redbus; buying on-site offers more flexibility, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the area and might miss your bus.

The journey takes about 2 hours, and once you arrive, take a Grab to Jonker Street.
2️⃣ When you reach Jonker Street around noon, it’s a great time for lunch. We tried He Ji Chicken Rice Ball; the chicken was smooth and tender, but the rice ball was just average. It’s not a must-try, but still a decent option.

3️⃣ After your meal, take a leisurely stroll down Jonker Street, which should take about 30-40 minutes to walk through. Enjoy the vibrant street life and unique shops.
4️⃣ At the end of the street, find a small alley to cross over to the other side, and make your way to the Peranakan Museum. This museum offers a fascinating insight into Peranakan culture.

Admission is 18 RM for adults, and it’s closed on Mondays. The museum closes at around 4:30 PM, so plan accordingly. The museum itself is actually a large Peranakan family house (see p9-12), and I highly recommend a visit!
5️⃣ After your visit, exit the museum and head to the archway. Opposite the archway, you’ll find Dutch Square, where the iconic pink church (p7) stands.

It’s a perfect spot for some memorable photos.
6️⃣ Next, make your way to St. Paul’s Church, which involves a 10-minute climb up the hill. The view from the top is breathtaking (p4&p16), and you can also see the stunning Malacca coastline.
7️⃣ After descending, take a taxi to the actual Strait of Malacca (p2).

Navigate to “Encore Malacca,” which is about a ten-minute ride away. Once there, you’ll see the sign for the Strait of Malacca and the endless sea! (p15)
8️⃣ If you stay overnight in Malacca, catch the sunset before you leave. The sunset usually starts after 7 PM. If you need to return to Kuala Lumpur, take a taxi back to Melaka Sentral station, buy a ticket from the self-service machine, and board the first available bus.

I tested it out, and all the buses are pretty much the same. Some bus companies are heavily marketed on XHS, but they offer similar services [doge].
