Popular Hiking Spot in Kuching – Bengoh Dam

Bengoh Dam is one of the hidden gems of the rainforest that I’ve had the pleasure of exploring multiple times. The ever-changing weather, with the sun blazing one moment and a gentle drizzle the next, perfectly captures the essence of a tropical rainforest.

Just a 15-minute boat ride from the dock, you’ll find yourself mesmerized by the stunning view of the lake blending seamlessly with the sky, creating a breathtaking double reflection. As you hike for about 50 minutes, you’ll cross an iconic indigenous bamboo bridge that spans a babbling stream, pass by a charming water curtain waterfall, and finally reach the highest waterfall.

Here, you can snap memorable photos with the famous tree vines, and if you’re lucky, witness the enchanting Tyndall effect, where light filters through the mist, casting a magical glow.

Along the way, there are several small waterfalls where you can splash and play, but be sure to avoid swimming at the highest waterfall due to its strong currents and deep waters. With a moderate difficulty level of two stars, this hike is a favorite among families, making it a perfect adventure for out-of-town friends to share with their children.
