Affordable Luxury: Life B&B in New Zealand with Breathtaking Views for Only $70 Per Night
We’ve been traveling and studying in New Zealand with our child for nearly three months, and the South Island’s landscapes have left us in awe. We’ve embarked on several long journeys, exploring the diverse regions of the South Island and experiencing a variety of unique homestays, each with its own charm.
This time, we found ourselves at our favorite homestay in New Zealand, a place that truly stands out.
Nestled by the serene Lake Pukaki, one of New Zealand’s most captivating attractions, this homestay is a hidden gem. As you can see on the map, it’s the only homestay around the entire lake, making it an exclusive retreat. You can check its exact location in picture 16.
The homestay is set within a private ranch, where the landlord has thoughtfully placed just four houses, each well-spaced to ensure complete privacy. Our stay was in the Station Cottage, the closest to the lake and boasting the best views of all.
The cottage faces the breathtaking Lake Pukaki, with the majestic Mount Cook towering in the background. The property features a large, lush lawn, and the house itself includes four rooms: a living room and three bedrooms, all with stunning lake views. An outdoor table and chairs on the lawn provide the perfect spot to savor a cup of coffee while gazing at the snow-capped peaks.
Behind the house, a picturesque pasture offers an ideal setting for photography. This spot likely provides the best angle to capture the beauty of Lake Pukaki and Mount Cook, with the pristine grass, snow-capped mountains, and tranquil lake creating a scene of unparalleled purity. Best of all, there are no other tourists around to disturb the serenity.
The price, as shown in picture 17, is remarkably reasonable. Compared to Tekapo, where a homestay without a view can easily cost over 2000, this one is less than 500 per person, making it an incredibly cost-effective choice. I highly recommend booking in advance. You can check availability on the Braemar station official website and secure your stay by sending an email as soon as you find an available slot.
