When we arrived in Dunedin, the weather was fantastic, as we wanted to see sea lions and penguins 🐧🦭
We unexpectedly discovered this hidden gem
The stunning views along the way were breathtaking

📍Sandfly Bay
🚗Parking: Sandfly Bay Car Park, Sandymount 9077.

It’s about 15 kilometers from the city center, a 20-minute drive. There is no direct bus, so driving yourself is the best option. Navigation is straightforward, and parking is free.

A favorite sunbathing spot for New Zealand sea lions, you can often see them lazily lying on the beach, super cute!

There are also rare yellow-eyed penguins, which return from the sea at dusk, truly adorable.
You might also have the chance to see spotted shags, sooty shearwaters, and various other seabirds.

🚶♂️Hiking Experience
Starting from the car park, follow the path through farmland.
You will pass a series of viewing platforms, offering spectacular coastal views all the way.

The descent is a soft and steep sandy slope, a bit challenging but absolutely worth it!

[Right Arrow] Make sure to take sun protection measures, bring sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen.
The UV rays here are very strong!
[Right Arrow] Wear non-slip hiking shoes, making it easier to walk on the dunes and the beach.

[Right Arrow] Respect the wildlife, do not approach or feed them. Sea lions can be aggressive, so keep a safe distance of 10-15 meters.
[Right Arrow] If you want to see the yellow-eyed penguins, it’s better to go in the evening when they usually return to their nests.
[Right Arrow] There is almost no mobile signal here, so inform your family and friends in advance.
