Discover Dunedin: Your Guide to the Charming Scottish-style Town in New Zealand

On the half-hour drive, you will see: Moeraki Boulders, and then another hour to Dunedin
Moeraki Boulders. More than 50 giant stone spheres scattered on the fine sandy beach, as if they were glass marbles discarded by a giant child, or dinosaur eggs left on the beach from the Ice Age. When to visit: It is recommended to come at low tide; you can check NZtides.

These stones were formed 4 million years ago. After millions of years of weathering, some have naturally cracked, are hollow inside, or contain very hard fossil structures. According to Māori legend, these are the gourds that rolled out when the large waka Arai-te-uru sank near the shore over 1000 years ago.

Avoid:
There is a Taipei 101 in Dunedin, and I don’t know why so many people recommend it; it really isn’t good. We ordered Sichuan-style fish, and the fish was not fresh and had a strong fishy smell, while the pickled cabbage was very bland. The braised pork rice was average, with very small pieces of meat that lacked flavor.

The dry-fried green beans even had Cantonese sausage added, and the green beans were soft and limp…
Later, we ate at Biggies Pizza in the Octagon, which was great. The pizza was freshly baked, the ingredients were fresh, and the service was very enthusiastic. It was mostly locals eating there 🍽️
There’s also a Cookie Time where the milkshakes are very pure and delicious.
