Discover Sandfly Bay, Dunedin: New Zealand’s Hidden Gem for Nature Lovers

It’s almost beach time!
Sandfly Bay, not to be confused with the pesky insect, is a breathtakingly beautiful beach located on the Otago Peninsula near Dunedin. The vibrant blue waters and lush green landscapes create a serene and visually stunning environment.

The coastline is dotted with charming lifestyle farms, perfect for retirees seeking a peaceful retreat, though there are also some dedicated farmers tending to their land. Imagine one person managing hundreds of sheep, riding horses along the shore, and taking leisurely strolls. The beach is also home to a plethora of lazy sea lions 🦭 lounging in the sun, surrounded by an array of fascinating seaweeds and kelp. It’s a sight so captivating, it leaves you speechless!

During our visit to Sandfly Bay, we had the chance to help a Japanese tourist whose car wouldn’t start. We lent him some jumper cables to get his vehicle back up and running. To our surprise, when we returned to our car, we found he had gone out of his way to buy us a case of cider as a token of gratitude. We cracked open a few bottles right there, and the refreshing drink made the moment even more memorable.
