Dunedin, where there are only over 70 sunny days a year, is a sister city of Shanghai, home to New Zealand’s first university, and filled with Scottish-style architecture… Day 3 🥳

The weather was pretty good early this morning, so we started by challenging the steepest street in the world. I didn’t dare to walk the steepest part, so I climbed up holding onto the handrail 😜 It felt a bit like Nanluoguxiang, with residents on both sides of the road bustling all day long, and tourists from around the world walking, looking, running, and climbing in front of their doors 😂

Dunedin isn’t big, and it took just a few minutes to drive to the University of Otago. Maybe because it’s still summer break, the campus was almost entirely filled with tourists. By the time we reached the Octagon, it had started raining. As someone from the north, I can’t imagine how to get through a year with only 70 sunny days 😖

From the Octagon, you can see the train station straight ahead. The garden at the entrance is quite beautiful, and I finally saw lupines! The small regret is that I forgot to take a panoramic photo of the station 😢 Carrying a camera and tripod, I didn’t even think about using my phone to take pictures.

Today’s schedule was tight, and in the afternoon, we went to see little penguins and seals. A baby seal was nursing, its fur sticking to its mother, super cute. The little blue penguin babies looked like kiwis, and it would have been great if I could have touched them.

The last stop was the Nugget Point Lighthouse. The sea here is so blue, and there are many large, textured rocks surrounding the hill where the lighthouse stands. Unfortunately, the summer daylight in New Zealand is too long, so we didn’t get to see the lighthouse at sunset.

I had no idea Dunedin had such interesting connections to Shanghai! The hidden art gems you mentioned sound fascinating, especially since they’re in a place with unique architecture and history. Have you visited any galleries or studios while exploring?
