Discover the Magic: Board Hogwarts Express at Platform 9¾ Today!
Who said Hogwarts only exists in the movies? This time, in New Zealand, a late-night stroll through Dunedin unexpectedly transported me into the magical world of Harry Potter! As I walked down the deserted streets, the nearly century-old buildings cast long, eerie shadows under the streetlights, whispering tales of the city’s rich and tumultuous history.

Under the starry night sky, the Gothic spires, neoclassical bell towers, and Victorian stained glass windows made me feel as if I had stepped back in time. The next day, when I returned to the same spot in the bright sunlight, that mysterious and enchanting atmosphere was nowhere to be found.

🏰 Must-visit buildings: Dunedin Town Hall, St Paul’s Cathedral, The Octagon, First Church Of Otago, and Dunedin Railway Station.

🗺️ Route: Following this order, you can efficiently explore the city on foot, with the entire route being just 1km. Taking an hour to stroll after dark truly reveals a different, more enchanting side of Dunedin.

💫 Notes:
⚠️ Safety: I ventured out at midnight on a Friday, and while there were still two bars open at The Octagon, the streets were almost empty. I did encounter a few drunkards and teenagers, but they didn’t cause any trouble. For women, it’s important to stay vigilant and prioritize safety.
🧥 Dress: Nights in Dunedin can get bitterly cold, with strong winds that sting your face.

Make sure to wear windproof clothing. Also, avoid wearing a hat; chasing one down the street in the middle of the night is not a fun experience. Trust me, I know from personal experience.
👻 Ghosts: Later, I learned that Dunedin is known for its ghost stories. To be honest, I only felt the city’s beauty and excitement at night, without sensing anything spooky or unusual.

Finally, for anyone planning a trip to Dunedin, make sure to experience the “Hogwarts” magic under the night sky. It’s an unforgettable journey into a world of wonder and enchantment.
