Discover the Most Beautiful Coastline in New Zealand: A Traveler’s Paradise 🌊

No one should miss the breathtakingly beautiful coastline of the South Island!

To be precise, the coastal road from Dunedin to Oamaru is, in my opinion, the very essence of the South Island! The endless expanse of blue ocean contrasts strikingly with the emerald green meadows and the leisurely grazing sheep, creating a truly stunning sight in New Zealand!

Here are a few must-see scenic spots along the way for everyone 👇

1️⃣ (P1-5) First up, Sandfly Bay! As you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a vast farm where flocks of sheep graze across the rolling hills, set against the backdrop of the sea, making for a breathtakingly beautiful scene. To reach the beach, you’ll need to walk down a path that can be quite steep, especially when it’s windy. Seals are often spotted here, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes for the descent.

2️⃣ (P6-9) Sandymount Viewpoint – Located on the other side of Sandymount, this spot offers a different perspective of the same magnificent sea. It’s notably less crowded and more serene. Before reaching the beach, you’ll pass through a vast forest filled with towering trees, giving off a magical, almost Lord of the Rings-like atmosphere.

3️⃣ (P10-12) Shag Point – Here, you can easily spot New Zealand’s native fur seals, which are delightfully fluffy and laid-back. Since this is a windward point, it can get quite breezy, so be sure to dress warmly.

4️⃣ (P13-15) Katiki Point – Besides the wildlife, there’s also an iconic lighthouse here. The walk to the beach is a bit longer, and the wind remains strong, but the views are well worth it.

5️⃣ (P16-17) Moeraki Boulders Beach – This long, picturesque beach is famous for its Moeraki Boulders, large, smooth stones shaped by the relentless waves. At the entrance, you’ll find a charming café and rest area, perfect for a relaxing break after a long drive.
