Dunedin One-Day Tour Recommendations: Best Sights and Activities Guide
[One R] Baldwin Street, the world’s steepest street
This street is even more breathtaking in person than in photos. Adventurous travelers love the thrill of driving up and then rushing down—it’s an exhilarating experience! You can park your car at the bottom of the street, where there’s a convenient spot for visitors 🚗

[Two R] Dunedin Railway Station
For parking, we recommend the Otago Settlers Museum (Toitu Otago Settlers Museum). It’s a perfect starting point for your exploration.

[Three R] First Church Of Otago
Connected to the Dunedin Railway Station, this architectural gem is a must-see. Its unique design makes it a fantastic spot for outdoor photography!

[Four R] The Octagon, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and Dunedin Town Hall are all in the same area and can be easily visited together. This vibrant hub offers a blend of history, culture, and stunning architecture, making it a delightful place to spend an afternoon.

[Six R] Tunnel Beach
Just a 15-minute drive from the city, Tunnel Beach is a hidden gem. Plan to spend at least 2 hours here. The trek to the beach is long and might leave your feet a bit tired, but the breathtaking views are well worth the effort!
Recommended parking: Tunnel Beach Parking

[Seven R] Saint Clair Beach (There’s a chance to see seals, but we had to skip it due to our tight schedule)
PS:
If you’re not heading to Oamaru, Dunedin is a fantastic first stop on the South Island. The drive from Christchurch to Dunedin takes about 5 hours, so we opted to return our rental car at a different location to save time on the road.
The cost of returning the car in a different location is roughly the same as the fuel cost for a 5-hour drive [Sly Smile R] ~
