However, you need to book at least one day in advance, or you might find yourself without a seat. You can choose the pick-up location closest to your hotel. The entire trip from Queenstown spans 12 hours, including a 10-hour round-trip bus ride and a 2-hour scenic boat tour, with lunch included.

The driver will provide two cards (p10-11), one for the meal and one for the boat. The bus is equipped with charging ports, internet access, and a temporary toilet, and the driver will make frequent stops along the way for bathroom breaks. The driver, who also serves as a guide, will patiently and humorously explain the scenery, with a half-hour stop at Te Anau.

You can also spot penguins and dolphins in the fjord. The captain mentioned there were penguins that day, but I missed them 😭. Other travelers said they saw penguins on a sunny day, which was quite a stroke of luck.

Personally, I think the most breathtaking scenery is on the way to and from the fjord, with hundreds of waterfalls cascading down, creating a truly awe-inspiring sight. The road is flanked by primeval forests covered in lush moss, making one marvel at the perfect preservation of the ecological environment.
