Most of the journey has now become a memory, but the most regrettable part was undoubtedly the rainy day on Mount Cook [disappointed R]. The long-awaited glacier hike had to be canceled (I was heartbroken; this was the highlight I had been looking forward to the most).

The first two photos capture the majestic beauty of Mount Cook from the mountain road. Even under heavy clouds, its grandeur is breathtaking.

The third photo shows a memorial before the first bridge, dedicated to those who tragically lost their lives in the mountains. Out of respect for the deceased, I didn’t take a picture, but I strongly recommend everyone to take a few extra steps to see it. It’s a poignant reminder to respect and revere nature.

In the fourth photo, I can’t recall which swing bridge it was, but I vividly remember the nervousness I felt as I crossed it in the strong wind. Initially, the gate was closed by the staff, but a brave foreigner climbed over to open it. His courage left me in awe.

As we continued, the rain began to pour. The fifth photo is a panoramic view taken at the end of the hike. The color of the lake appeared eerily surreal on that overcast day.

At the end of Hooker Valley, there’s a downhill path on the left. Taking this route offers a closer and more impressive view of the lake. I highly recommend that anyone visiting should take a few extra steps to experience it.

The seventh photo shows the entire route. I never imagined completing the climb in such challenging weather, but the sense of accomplishment was immense.

On the way back, the sky cleared up a bit. Pukaki Lake revealed its stunning beauty! I finally understood why people describe it as Tiffany blue and milk blue.

Naturally, I couldn’t miss checking in with Mt. Cook salmon, as shown in the ninth and tenth photos.

Before heading out, I filled up the gas tank. The gas station in Twizel town is surprisingly affordable, making it a great stop.

Just outside Twizel town, there’s a small, serene lake. It’s a peaceful spot with few visitors, perfect for a quiet moment. I highly recommend it!

Finally, I had my first sip of local wine. It was a touching and memorable moment.

That sounds like quite an adventure! The photos really capture the dramatic atmosphere though the rain, even if it ruined your plans for the glacier hike. Nature can be unpredictable, but those cloud-covered peaks are still stunning.
