First Time in Japan Travel Guide: Why Osaka Disappointed Me | Honest Trip Review
A 9-day free trip, and dedicating two whole days to Osaka turned out to be a massive regret! Beyond the thrills of Universal Studios, this city left me utterly underwhelmed.

1️⃣ Namba and Shinsaibashi? More like chaos central! Why is it so grimy, overcrowded, and reminiscent of a rundown flea market? Did I fly to Japan just to wander through a glorified street market?
2️⃣ Shopping tip: Umeda, Umeda, Umeda—repeat after me! Escape the tourist traps and avoid dismissive Korean sales staff.

Japanese service here is impeccable. If Umeda’s upscale boutiques don’t have it, Shinsaibashi’s touristy stalls certainly won’t—it’s practically a Chinatown now.
3️⃣ Coming from Tokyo and Kyoto, Osaka hit me like a culture shock. Nagahoribashi Station takes the prize for filthiest subway—sticky black gum stains everywhere.

Revolting!
4️⃣ Those Xiaohongshu influencers claiming Namba is convenient? Total myth. Umeda wins hands-down: closer to Kyoto, better transit links, and luxury shopping at Takashimaya and Hankyu. Cleaner, calmer, and infinitely classier.
5️⃣ Don Quijote? Hard pass. Imagine hunting for brands in a sweaty, claustrophobic bargain bin—zero charm, zero deals.

6️⃣ Osaka’s so-called “must-sees”—the Glico sign, Tsutenkaku Tower, Osaka Castle—are textbook tourist traps. Tsutenkaku’s surroundings? Just another forgettable shopping arcade you’ve seen a hundred times.
7️⃣ Let’s be real: USJ is Osaka’s only saving grace. Should’ve extended my Tokyo stay instead.

8️⃣ Hotel staff here wear permanent scowls—did someone replace their coffee with vinegar?
9️⃣ Pro tip: Steer clear of Chinese/Korean service workers if you want basic courtesy.
🔟 Photo paper and disposable cameras? Good luck! Osaka’s shelves are perpetually empty. Should’ve stocked up in Tokyo.
