No Contact for 2 Days? How I Finally Found Cell Signal Near the Bathroom

The morning dawned with golden sunshine, but by midday, thick fog rolled in and the skies opened up with torrential rain. Thankfully, we’d already arrived at our campsite just in time to take shelter from the raging storm.

Today marked our third exhilarating day conquering Kilimanjaro—an 11-kilometer journey with a challenging 400-meter elevation gain. We trekked from Shira 1 Camp (3,480m) to Shira 2 Camp (3,900m) across surprisingly gentle terrain, completing the hike in just over four hours of steady climbing.

The crisp morning air gifted us with breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped peaks, which seemed to grow more majestic with every step. As I marveled at the glistening summit, a mix of awe and doubt crept in—would I truly have the endurance to reach that pristine white crown?

Word spread like wildfire through our group about potential signal at today’s campsite. After three days of complete disconnection, even the faintest 2G flicker sent waves of excitement through our weary team.

Determined to reconnect with civilization, my adventurous companions braved the downpour to scout the entire campsite. Our persistence paid off near the toilet area, where we discovered a magical spot with intermittent 4G. Though the connection came and went like a shy mountain goat, it was our precious lifeline to the outside world. Who knew happiness could be found amidst such… aromatic surroundings?
