Discover Why Hokkaido Feels Boring & Hidden Gems You’re Missing Out On

My trip to Hokkaido left me somewhat underwhelmed. While pleasant, the experience didn’t quite live up to the hype – especially when compared to Japan’s vibrant cities like Tokyo or Osaka.

Truth be told, most of what Hokkaido offers can be found in Northeast China as well. The landscapes, while beautiful, felt familiar rather than extraordinary.

The only truly unique highlight? The magical outdoor hot springs – a blissful experience of soaking in warm waters surrounded by nature. Beyond this, however, the trip lacked the novelty and excitement I’d hoped for.

For travelers seeking Japan’s iconic urban energy or truly distinctive experiences, I’d recommend looking beyond Hokkaido’s snowy vistas.
