Malaysia Travel Guide: Comprehensive Entry Tips and Requirements 2023

I’ve been browsing through Xiaohongshu for entry guides, and it’s made me a bit dizzy [Disappointed R]
I thought of compiling a comprehensive entry guide to make things easier for myself and others. If there are any inaccuracies or additional information needed, feel free to discuss in the comments.

1️⃣ Passport 🪪
* Visa-free period: ⚠️2023.12.1-2025.11.30⚠️
* Malaysia offers a visa-free entry convenience for Chinese citizens staying no more than 30 days.
* For those with passports, check if the validity is more than 6 months, if there are more than 2 blank pages, and if the passport is undamaged, without missing corners or graffiti. If not, get a new passport as soon as possible.

2️⃣ Electronic Entry Card 🛃 (Starting from Figure 5)
Although it’s visa-free, foreign citizens still need to fill out the MDCA (Malaysia Digital Check-in Application) before entering. Fill it out 3 days before arrival, it’s all in English, so it’s recommended to fill it out in advance. The process is as follows:
* Log in to the official website REGISTRATION
* Fill in personal information
* Fill in entry information
* After completing the information, submit it
* Receive an email with a PIN code
* Re-enter the official website CHECK REGISTRATION
* Enter the information and PIN code to download the PDF file and print it

3️⃣ Popular Cities and Postal Codes (For filling out the electronic entry card)

* Malacca: Malacc-75000, Malacca State
* Kota Kinabalu (Kota Kinabalu): Kota Kinabalu-88670, Sabah State

4️⃣ Hotel Booking, Return Flight Tickets ✈️
1. 🏨 Hotel:
* Book your entire stay at a hotel and print the English version of the hotel reservation.
* If traveling with multiple people, everyone’s name should be on one hotel reservation. You don’t need to print one for each person, but when going through customs, queue together and present the materials together, informing the immigration officer that you are together.

2. ✈️ Flight Tickets:
* Purchase round-trip tickets and print the English itinerary (bilingual Chinese-English is also acceptable).
* Customs mainly checks the return flight itinerary, so be sure to prepare the return ticket in advance. (If it’s a multi-destination trip, such as: Shanghai-Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur-Singapore, Singapore-Beijing)

5️⃣ Cash 💴
* In Malaysia, both cash and credit cards are accepted.
* Major international credit cards like Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted in Malaysia.
* It’s recommended to carry some cash as a backup.
* Customs officers may check if you have enough cash for your expenses in Malaysia, although there is no fixed amount.
* If carrying more than $10,000 or 34,000 MYR, you must declare it to customs and fill out the Customs No.22 form.
