Embarking on the hike from the charming town of Cassis, just a stone’s throw from Marseille, I highly recommend taking the Panoramic route (after Calanque de Port Pin, turn left at the yellow sign and follow the blue markers) to witness the breathtaking scenery captured in the third picture. The journey from entering the national park to reaching Calanque d’En-vau takes about 1.

5 hours, with a difficulty level marked as “Difficult.” For the return trip, you can take the regular route, which typically takes around an hour.

[One] Given the “Difficult” rating, it is essential to wear proper hiking shoes!! The trail features many smooth, worn-out sections and weathered pebbles, making it easy to slip and fall; tread carefully, and avoid the hike if it’s raining. The final descent to the strait is quite steep, often requiring the use of both hands and feet. Hiking poles are not recommended due to the slippery and hard-to-grip stones.

[Two] Make sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen!!! While there are occasional shady spots, they are few and far between. In the summer, when temperatures soar above 30 degrees, each person should carry at least 2 liters of water, and don’t forget to add electrolytes, as you will sweat profusely!!! Reapply sunscreen frequently, whether you’re on the trail or after a refreshing swim.

[Three] Pack everything you need for a swim and some beach relaxation. After the heat of the hike, plunging into the crystal-clear sea is incredibly invigorating!!

[Four] Start early and bring your lunch!!! In the summer, crowds begin to arrive in large numbers after 11 am. Rise early and set out to secure a prime spot, and enjoy a peaceful picnic in the strait all by yourself.

[Five] Many visitors also opt to reach this stunning location by kayak from Cassis. If you’re up for an adventure, give it a try!
