I recalled reading a travel blogger’s account where crabs were priced at 4,000-5,000 shillings per kilogram and lobsters around 10,000 shillings. Curious, I decided to investigate today’s rates myself.

To my astonishment, live blue crabs were being offered at a staggering 45,000 shillings per kilogram, while lobsters commanded an eye-watering 100,000 shillings per kilogram! When the vendors encouraged me to make an offer, I couldn’t resist playing along – suggesting 4,500 for crabs and 10,000 for lobster with a straight face. Their shocked expressions said it all – we both knew this negotiation wasn’t going anywhere!

Truth be told, those initial outrageous quotes had already convinced me this wasn’t a purchase worth pursuing. The whole experience became more about enjoying the lively market atmosphere and the amusing bargaining dance than actually buying seafood.
