Da Nang 🇻🇳 Travel Tips: Essential Advice for a Smooth Trip & Avoiding Common Mistakes
Hello everyone, this is Nicole, a long-time resident of both Chengdu and Da Nang, living in Da Nang for the ninth year. Recently, I’ve received many private messages from friends who plan to visit Da Nang after the New Year, asking what they need to prepare.

Here’s a very detailed list for you, so you can set off with ease and have a great time!

🇻🇳1. **Essential Apps to Download**
– **Google Maps**: A navigation tool, useful for finding your way, checking out attractions, and searching for food.
💕 (You can get a lot of information on Google Maps, such as business phone numbers, make reservations, business hours, and reviews. Especially during the Lunar New Year 🧧, it’s good to call ahead to check if a place is open.
)
– **Google Translate**: Don’t worry about language barriers; it can handle photo translation and voice translation.
– **Grab**: The Southeast Asian version of “Didi,” useful for hailing rides and ordering food, with transparent pricing to avoid being overcharged.
🇻🇳2. **Currency Exchange Tips**
– **Prepare US Dollars in Advance**: Exchange for US dollars in China, then exchange for Vietnamese Dong in Vietnam, which offers a better exchange rate.
– **Exchange at the Airport**: The exchange rate is lower, so it’s recommended to only exchange a small amount for emergencies like taking a taxi.
– **Exchange in the City**: Gold shops are better, and it’s recommended to go to gold shops near Han Market.
🇻🇳3. **Clothing Preparation**
– **Cool Season (November – March)**: Temperatures range from 20-25°C, cooler in the morning and evening, so bring a light jacket and long pants.
– **Hot Season (April – October)**: Temperatures exceed 30°C, so prepare sun-protective clothing, hats, sunglasses, and lightweight, breathable clothes.
– **Swimwear**: You can swim all year round, but the sea is warmest from March to September, ideal for swimming and surfing. From October to February, the sea is cooler, so it’s recommended to swim around noon when there’s more sunlight.
🇻🇳4. **Best Time for Swimming**
– **Optimal Time**: March to September, when the water is clear and warm, with smaller waves.
– **Precautions**: During the rainy season (September to December), the waves are larger, so be cautious before entering the water.
🇻🇳5. **Other Tips**
– **SIM Card**: It’s recommended to buy a Vietnamese SIM card online in advance, I use VinaPhone, or purchase one at the airport.
– **Power Adapter**: Vietnam uses two-prong flat plugs, with a voltage of 220V, so remember to bring an adapter.
– **Sun Protection**: The UV rays in Da Nang are strong, so sunscreen and after-sun care products are essential.
– **Items to Bring**: Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, power bank
– **Medicines**: Stomach medicine, cold medicine, mosquito repellent (for emergencies)

I had no idea about the best time to visit Da Nang until I read this—definitely going to avoid the rainy season now. Also, good tip on learning some basic Vietnamese phrases; locals really appreciate the effort. This post should be mandatory reading for anyone planning a trip there!
